The age old stories about messages in bottles have always been captivating and for those who appreciate romance, there is something about them that is difficult to resist. The prospect of having a message that you wrote reach someone who is in a completely different part of the world is truly special.

While the Internet has advanced to a point where this type of communication is no longer necessary, there are still important messages floating around in the waters out there. A fisherman from Georgia recently learned this lesson firsthand and this tale will touch your heart.

Fisherman Finds Old Bottle On Shore, Reads A 36-Year-Old Message Inside That Shocks Him

Ryan was enjoying a fun day of fishing with his friends and loved ones, when he noticed a brown bottle perched in the sand. When he noticed the bottle’s unique glimmer, he realized that there had to be something very special about this particular bottle and he was drawn to it immediately.

The message was dated over three decades ago, but remained perfectly legible. It was set adrift in 1981 in Florida and Ryan set about the task of locating its author, a man by the name for Douglas. The address on the back was a dead end, as the property had already been sold several times over.

He then reached to the good people at Southeast Adventure Outfitters and they put up a Facebook post that allowed them to get into contact with Douglas. He was astonished that someone had actually found his note and been willing to reach out. He would soon meet up with Ryan to enjoy a few beers and some much needed laughs.

For Ryan’s part, he says that the conversation with Douglas was an incredible one. The two men were able to enjoy each other’s company and reminisce about a much simpler time already gone by. However, Ryan does leave us all with a very crucial message: do not throw things into the ocean, as they will remain there forever.
